Spent the whole day in multiple meetings. First was a post-mortem on Biomed ‘06. All the usual stuff (lucky they guy with the wicked beard was there to crack some jokes). Then after lunch, OBE. Outcome-based Education "shifts from the traditional focus on what students should be taught
(content) to a focus on
setting universal standards of what students are expected to
demonstrate they know and are able to do". Basically, an approach that should bring less spoon-feeding and regurgitation for exams, and more fun activities. It’s supposed to start next semester. Let’s see if theory matches practicality. But I absolutely loved this bit in the meeting notes. Here it is, verbatim:

A typical 10 hour working day for a student

6am to 8am: wake up, clean up, breakfast etc….
8am to 1pm: Lecture/ Tutorial / self study (5 hours)
1pm to 2pm: Lunch and rest
2pm to 5pm: Lecture/ Tutorial / self study (3 hours)
5pm to 8pm: Sports, activities, bath, rest, dinner, etc…..
8pm to 10pm: Self study/ tutorial/ group study
10pm: Nap time (8 solid hours of sleep. Sleep early and wake up early and you don’t need any beauty cream or lotion. The secret of staying young and healthy)

Are you ROTFL-ing yet? If not, this would do the trick. A spoof within a spoof? Just effing brilliant. It’s bittersweet to me that House M.D. is so successful, because now everybody knows what once only a few knew: that Hugh Laurie’s absof**kinglutely the man.
